The role of the Insurance Data Scientist / Actuarial Data Scientist aims to offer new services, products and solutions through data analytics. In this role you will collaborate closely with our clients, underwriters, client managers, the IT department, and other experts in Mumbai and offices such as Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Munich, Beijing, Sydney, and Princeton.

Your job

• You will work with our clients to identify, develop and deliver data analytics solutions to improve their business. These improvements include business growth, stronger profitability, reduced fraud and process efficiency. You will also help clients to become data-driven organisations.
• You will have the full spectrum of data analytics exposure, being involved in the end-to-end application of data analytics including scoping, delivery, client engagement, deployment, impact assessment and other follow-up reviews.
• You will apply practical and advanced data analytics techniques in your daily work to address real world business problems. Depending on resourcing and demand, you may also support other sophisticated offerings such as involving deep learning and image recognition.
• As part of your work, you will be directly communicating your data analytics insights and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will also be developing strong business acumen as part of your role.
• You will be part of a truly global team, comprising of data scientists, actuaries, product developers and business technology, with daily interactions with Singapore and Munich colleagues and experts.

Your profile

• A self-starter who can work independently and also be a strong team-player
• At least a Bachelor’s (preferably Master’s) in statistics, actuarial science, applied mathematics, operations research, computer science, or a comparable discipline
• Sound knowledge of the insurance industry, including practical hands-on data analytics experience (2-5 years)
• Very good theoretical and practical knowledge of traditional ML methods and in-depth experience in relevant tools/languages such as Python / R. In addition DL knowledge is a plus.
• Confident in SQL queries
• Other experiences such as the following will be a plus (but not necessary):
  • Experience with big data platforms (Cloudera / Hortonworks, MapR, or Pivotal)
  • Experience / understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices
  • Experience of having worked on cloud environments (Azure, AWS, etc.)
• Ideal candidate is committed, motivated, willing to learn new tools technologies, and be willing to step outside their comfort zone
