Your field of responsibility

The opportunity is for the role of Risk Economist in the Scenario Design team within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department as part of the Group Stress Testing team. The team uses quantitative tools and qualitative analysis to develop stressed capital and earnings scenarios for the CS Group. Scenario development has a key strategic importance for the firm as stressed scenario impacts feed into the group wide risk appetite framework. The team also covers regulatory scenarios for various regulators as well as those for the financial planning and credit provisioning requirements (CECL). In addition, the team supports divisions and legal entities in their scenario development activities.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Regularly review the existing scenario suite of the CS Group and lead the continuous evolution of the scenario suite in light of external market/geopolitical conditions and CS group wide material risks
  • Design and calibrate new stress scenarios, recalibrate existing scenarios using quantitative tools (e.g scenario expansion models)
  • Supplement the use of quantitative tools with qualitative expert judgement which references stress events that have occurred in the past and forward looking views on how the markets and economy may plausibly react in the future
  • Lead syndication of scenario narrative and calibration of risk factors with group wide specialists and achieve consensus
  • Acquire approvals of scenario suite updates and scenario (re)calibrations in governance
  • Writing regular high quality updates on emerging external risks.

Your future colleagues

The key business partners of the team are the CS Group’s head regulator (FINMA), CS senior management and a group wide network of senior specialists from e.g. CS Economic Research, asset class risk specialists, model owners and CS businesses. Accordingly, this role offers significant exposure to senior management. The Scenario Design team is located in Zurich, London, Raleigh and Mumbai. The successful candidate, based in Mumbai, will report to the Head of the Team based in Mumbai whilst working very closely with the Global Co-Heads of Scenario Design, the Senior ERM Risk Economist in London and the rest located in Mumbai.

Your skills and experience

You are an experienced professional and possess:

  • Outstanding quantitative background, such as a degree in finance, economics or in statistics
  • Proficiency of markets, economy and of economic data
  • Experience in translating macro-economic and market concepts into plausible risk factor shocks in hypothetical stress scenarios
  • Proven experience in writing forward-looking analysis on the markets, on the economy and on risk management issues
  • Proficiency of traded, banking book and credit risks, most likely gained through working in a risk function in a financial institution
  • Experience in team management
  • Result oriented, dedicated, hardworking and can work on own initiative whilst also working to deliver on time
